This page contains links to some simple JavaScript applications. I hope you find them interesting.

Due to variations in the way different browsers implement JavaScript, I cannot guarantee that the examples will work with your particular setup. The latest scripts should work in modern browsers, such as Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Internet Explorer (5.5 to 8.0). The older examples have been tested on Netscape (4, 6 and 7), Mozilla and Internet Explorer (4 and 5) on MacOS, Linux and Windows. They also work using Konqueror 2.2.1 on Linux. In some cases I have provided alternative versions which should run on other browsers, such as older versions of Opera, OmniWeb and iCab.

JavaScript Applications:

• Mine Sweeper
  A clone of Minesweeper using JavaScript.
  
  
• Fill Pattern Editor
  Use this application to design "fill patterns" — think Atari ST and (pre System 7) Apple Macintosh.
  
  
• Big Text Scroller
  Demonstrates a way of scrolling text in a web page. When the end of the message is reached, it's repeated.
  An alternative version, using the proposed CSS3 marquee property, is also available. Currently this version only works with Safari and Chrome.
  
  
• Sliding Tile Puzzle
  An implementation of the classic "15 Puzzle". The object is to arrange the numbered tiles in order by sliding them around. A timer keeps track of how long it takes to solve the puzzle.
  
  
• Card Matching Game
  A variation of "Concentration", or "Pairs". The object is to turn over cards (two at a time) to find matching pairs. A timer keeps track of how long it takes to find all the pairs.
  
  
• Simple Stats
  Calculates some basic statistics for a series of data values.
  
  
• Depreciation Calculator
  Calculates the depreciation expense and generates a depreciation schedule for an asset.
  
  
• ANZSIC Selector
  Hierarchical Select Lists demo, using the hierarchy of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC).
  
  
• Recent Blog Posts
  Generates links to the ten most recent posts on three of my Blogger blogs.
  
  
• Credit Card Validator
  Checks the validity and type of a credit card number.
  
  
• Random Blog Posts
  Generates random links to posts on three of my Blogger blogs.
  
  
• Random Banner-gram
  Displays anagrams of my name, randomly selected from a predefined list.
  
  
• Multi-Library Search Tool
  Search multiple libraries using a single form to enter criteria (Title, Author and Subject).
  An Expanded version with more libraries and modified user interface is also available.
  
  
• Degrees Minutes Seconds to Decimal Degrees Converter
  Converts a coordinate from Degrees, Minutes, Seconds (with direction) to Decimal degrees.

  This little JavaScript application let's you type in a phrase and then analyzes it to see if it is a palindrome.
  
  
• Lotto Numbers Selector
  This JavaScript application uses a random number generator to pick numbers for lotto or bingo.
  
  
• Date and Time
  This little JavaScript application displays the current date and time. The display is updated every second.
  
  
• Hierarchical Select Lists
  This little JavaScript application demonstrates how to set up hierarchical select lists (menus).
  
  
• Bar Chart Test (tables version)
  This little JavaScript application demonstrates how to generate a simple bar chart. This version works by setting the width and bgcolor attributes of table cells.
  
  
• Bar Chart Test (image version)
  This little JavaScript application demonstrates how to generate a simple bar chart. This version works by setting the width attribute of a pixel image.
  
  
• Browser Detector
  This little JavaScript application tries to detect various browser settings.
  
  
• Birthday Notice
  This JavaScript application uses an internal data structure to notify of the next upcoming birthday.
  
  
• Selection Frame Demo
  This little JavaScript application demonstrates how to use layers to simulate a resizable selection frame or grabber.
  For Netscape 4, try an older version instead.
  
  
• Red Pixel Test
  This little JavaScript application checks if there are too many red pixels in your cache files.
  
  
• Pseudo JavaScript Console
  Provides some of the functionality of Netscape's JavaScript Console for other browsers.
