Depreciation Calculator

Use this form to work out the Depreciation Schedule for an asset. See below for notes.

Disclaimer: This page is primarily for demonstration purposes. While every effort has been made to provide an accurate and usable calculator, accounting rules and tax laws are complex and subject to change. Please do not rely on the calculations below: they're indicative only, and tailored for Australian users.

Tested with Safari, Firefox and Opera on Mac OS X. According to Browsershots, the page loads and appears to work with Internet Explorer (versions 5.5 to 8.0), Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari on Windows.

Notes

  • The schedule is recalculated whenever an input value is changed.
  • This page is currently Australia-centric (e.g. uses dollars and reporting years end on June 30).
  • Date validation uses Datejs.
  • All dollar amounts are rounded up.

Future enhancements

  • Support for more depreciation methods (e.g. Sum of years' digits).
  • Support for scrap (or salvage) value for non-taxation calculations.
  • Use Australian Tax Office-supplied depreciation data.
  • Allow adjustments for non-taxable use.
  • International version: currencies, date formats, reporting years, etc.
