No doubt you've clicked on a link or typed in a URL only to be confronted
with a "404" page. Often the page simply has the cryptic heading
"HTTP Error 404" and some generic advice. Other sites are more helpful,
providing a site map or search page to help you find what you were looking
for. Then there are those sites which take the opportunity to provide some
humour.

Here are a few interesting "404" pages.

Subject: B-List: What Time Is It?

Subject: B-List: Newsflash

1. Auctions Bid Goodbye to Failed Dot-Coms
  < http://www.latimes.com/news/state/20010614/t000049541.html >
Looks like common items of failed dot-coms are Foosball machines
and pingpong tables.

2. Potatoland
Strange "art" site, using some web-page tricks.

3. Mobile Firms Patent 'Brain Shields'

A note about the 404 pages post: It seems Microsoft has there own
ideas on what should be displayed when a web page isn't found. So
Internet Explorer displays it's own generic page rather than the one
provided by a web site, meaning users miss out on some imaginative and
more informative pages. It may be possible to turn the IE "feature"
off.

Google Image Search

A new service from the guys at Google: search the web for images.
For example, if you want a picture of a Ferrari 512, type in
"Ferrari 512". Not perfect, but quite useful.

Read about the features:

For an advanced search:

The service also allows for filtering of mature content.

BTW, the standard Google text search engine URL is:
